Runnymede to be Renamed – HTC Sensation XL
The HTC Runnymede has been in the spotlight thanks to the giant screen it sports and other awesome features coming on the board. The phone, which actually is the Android version of the earlier announced HTC Titan (WP Mango-based), isn’t launched yet, but every day we hear something new about it, and today is no exception. A few hours ago we heard a rumor that the HTC Runnymede will be renamed to the HTC Sensation XL when it is launched.

We heard a similar rumor a while ago, and that time enthusiasts renamed it to the HTC Bass for the UK launch. Anyway, it’s an accepted practice worldwide when the same phone is launched with different names via different mobile operators — so nothing to be surprised at. The only question is — is there a sense in renaming the HTC Runnymede this way? Yeah, the original HTC Sensation is a cool and famous device and perhaps its name will help the Runnymede to be promoted, too, but there is one more device with that name — the Sensation XE — coming soon with Beats, so… launching two devices with similar names simultaneously seems to be a strange idea to me.
So now the HTC Runnymede has three different names, and though each of them shows a separate feature of the handset, I like the “Runnymede” most. The “Sensation XL” will just put it into an existing phone line reasoning it is sensational and will become as beloved as the original one; the “Bass” emphasizes the fact that this smartphone supports Beats Audio. But Beats Audio isn’t the only interesting thing in the phone, which also has a 4.7-inch display, a 1.5GHz processor, an 8MP camera and other goodies (plus runs Android 2.3.4 with HTC Sense 3.5). So a good name should stress ALL THESE features, and not only Dre’s Beats Audio.
Today I talked with several geek friends of mine, and almost all of them said they want this new smartphone to be called the HTC Runnymede, but something tells me the company will launch it as the HTC Sensation XL anyway…
