Xperia S Will Hit UK in March

The Xperia S has just been announced at the CES and it’s already been confirmed for UK. Seems like we can expect the new Sony flagship in March, and two carriers – Three and O2 – have already confirmed plans to offer the device. The specifics aren’t known, so it’s unclear whether other carriers will join the two, but it’s a safe bet that at some point they will, as the Xperia S is just too good to miss on. Similarly, the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S, which is essentially the previous range-topper, was offered though deals by virtually all major British carriers.

The Xperia S, which is the first handset to be branded as Sony, is probably the most important smartphone we’ve seen at this year’s CES. Not only does it show a new design philosophy for the company, a very promising one by the way, it also has all that it takes to take Sony back to the top. The 4.3-inch 720×1280 pixel display is one of the sharpest ones available on any smartphone, plus its Reality matrix offers new levels of colour reproduction and contrast. The 12-megapixel camera is bound to make the phone one of the best shooters on the market, while the dual-core 1.5 GHz processor will ensure smooth operation in all circumstances. The phone will ship with Android 2.3, but an Ice Cream Sandwich update has already been confirmed and should be available soon after the phone’s release.

One of the strong points about the Xperia S is the list of interesting accessories that may be purchased separately. The SmartWatch, for example, will allow you to use some of the phone’s features without even taking it out of your pocket, while the Wireless Headset pro is actually a MP3 player by itself and can display notifications from the phone in a similar fashion to the SmartWatch. There are many others, but we’ll take a closer look at them during the review as the phone hits the stores.
