HTC To Launch 1.7GHz Dual-Core One S Handsets In Select Markets

HTC To Launch 1.7GHz Dual-Core One S Handsets In Select Markets

Back in April we heard that HTC was going launch the One S knock-off in China under $200. Of course, many of its features should be slightly modified — otherwise HTC couldn’t sell for such a low price. Now it turned out that this phone is not the only modification of the HTC One S — yesterday HTC confirmed the rumor saying that a Qualcomm Snapdragon S3-packed HTC One S will be launched in Taiwan.

According to HTC’s announcement, the One S will be launched in many Asian and European markets sporting a dual-core 1.7GHz Snapdragon S3 chipset, while the US, the UK, Japan, Korea, France, and Germany have already received the dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4-packed HTC One S, so the users want to know how they can differentiate the S3 and S4 models.

HTC said they were going to label the S3 versions of the smartphone in those countries where both versions are expected to be available. So if you see an S3 label on an HTC One S, it means the phone’s processor is clocked at 1.7GHz. And if the device comes with an S4 label, it packs a 1.5GHz processor.

Many One S owners can ask why HTC continues the same strategy it used last year launcheding many handsets one after another. And you know, they will be right, because if both versions of the HTC One S have the same price, there will be no sense in buying the less powerful S4-labeled One S. On the other hand, if the more powerful One S is more expensive, people can refuse to buy it, because they can purchase the quad-core HTC One X for the same money.
